Recently, the Shearwater Village has added a unique lodge with camping grounds. Victoria Falls Rest Camp was one of the few campsites in the town. With a swimming pool and bar for patrons, their chalets have a fair price if you wish for a longer stay in Victoria Falls.

Victoria Falls Industry

There is a small industrial area mainly for service building materials and household furniture. Most of the products here are iron products and wood products. The dominant and big companies here are Tour Operators who run the small town. Their service in recent years in running activities and tours has also improved to meet World-class expectations. Long-serving companies here include Wild Horizon, Shearwaters, Bushtracks Africa, and a few more.

Popular on the scene of adventure activities is the whitewater rafting in the Zambezi river and the bungee jumping on the bridge. Neighboring Chinotimba township is the newly established Mkhosana Township, growing at an enormous pace. With the influx of people into the small town to make their stake in the tourism industry, the challenge for local housing became imminent. More new stands are being unveiled as the small-town fights to meet the ever-rising population in Victoria Falls. 10km from Victoria Falls is the village of Monde which has also seen people moving in to ease the housing challenge. But the Hwange Rural district council administers Monde. There have been a growing number of lodges being established along the airport road with the airport situated 25km from the town.

Being a national park, the Wildlife and Parks Authority, a government entity, is also a big institution here to take care of wildlife. Chief among the duties here is to fight poachers. Anti-poaching units are on patrol every single day in the region surrounding the small town.

Together with other government institutions like the police, help to combat poaching. In recent years, there has been a surge in the numbers of poaching not only in the town but in the region. The decline in the number of animals poached has borne fruits. The elephant, rhino, and painted dog being endangered species has seen the growth in numbers. In the Kavango-Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation (KAZA) region of which Victoria Falls is a part, the elephant population stands now at 205 000 accounting for half of the population of African elephants. The population of rhinos has also significantly increased in recent years. Thanks to the government’s efforts and the Non-governmental organizations that have worked tirelessly in conservation programs.
