Zambia is situated on a high plateau in south-central Africa. Zambezi river runs from the Equatorial wet region in the north-west and circles through Angola. The river is significant for agriculture and livelihood of the people of Zambia, Zimbabwe, Angola and Mozambique. It harbors the Victoria Falls, the biggest tourist attraction in the region. At Victoria Falls it plunges 108 metres deep gorge which is 1 000 m wide. Further down it forms Lake Kariba, the biggest source of hydro electric power in the region.
The rest of the country lies in the Zambezi basin. Two other big rivers, Kafue and Luangwa supports wildlife in Zambia. Kafue river drains the Lukanga Swamp and the Kafue Flats . This region attracts a huge population of big mammals and many species of birds. Luangwa river runs through the Luangwa national park well known for it's high concentration of wildlife including the big cats.
The copper-belt brings much of the needed forex in Zambia. But the abundance of wildlife and the diversity of its ecology makes Zambia mostly preferred destination for safari. The people of Zambia are the most peaceful, helpful and humble.
While Victoria Falls is definitely on top of the list of what to do in Zambia, there is certainly a lot other things you can do. Safari would be a great opportunity here from the wetlands of the Kafue national park to the Luangwa national park.
Lake Kariba on the other end gives a good time on the beach or safari on boat or just a sunset boat cruise. The City of Lusaka has the taste of African urban life while Livingstone Town has become the Adventure Town of Africa.
