Flatdogs Camp is on the border of the South Luangwa National Park. South Luangwa is the biggest and most visited park in Zambia. With a land size of 9 000 sq km of pristine wilderness, it is a perfect weekend getaway destination. The Luangwa river which flows through the national park supports thousands of wildlife. Luangwa river often floods during the rainy season that runs from August to February.

South Luangwa NP hosts a wide variety of wildlife, birds and vegetation. Walking safaris are still the finest way to explore the Africa’s pristine wilderness. The dry, bare bush-veld in winter season is complimented by the lush summer green-land.

There are more than 60 species of wildlife in South Luangwa National Park and 400 bird species. Among these birds are the 39 species of birds of prey and 47 migratory species. So much for the birdwatchers to see all year round.

Vegetation in the park will enhance your experience of the bush. Some beautiful trees and plants grow in the Luangwa valley and adds to the richness of one’s knowledge of the indigenous trees. Mopane, lead-wood, winter-thorn, ivory palm, marula and the tamarind trees are among the common trees. The magnificent baobab is also scattered in this valley.

Luxury Safari camps like the Flatdogs and Zikomo camps offer perfect sightings for wildlife. These Safari lodges are located right on the banks of the river. Among popular activities offered at the camps are the famous walking safari. Game drives on 4×4 vehicles are the ultimate safari in Africa. Get as close to nature in one of Africa’s mostly densely populated game reserve.

Itinerary

Day 1 :
Lusaka

On arrival in Lusaka you meet your Guide at your Hotel/Lodge in the morning. You have a briefing of how the Tour is going to run. If there is need to get some cash or shopping for essential toiletries we do so before we head off to South Luangwa. On your way you can stop at Luangwa Bridge market and Tribal Textile. Distance from Lusaka to South Luangwa National park is 700 km. The first day will be a long day of drive. However if you would prefer to fly there are local flights to South Luangwa from Lusaka. After an early breakfast we start our morning game drive at 066:00hrs and explore the area. You will have a lunch break at the lodge. Rest a bit while viewing game on the river front before we go on a late afternoon game drive. South Luangwa is well known is well known for its lion and leopard population. Optional walking safari and night game drives can be arranged from the lodge a an extra cost.

All day game drive with an afternoon break for lunch.

Day 4 :
Lusaka

After breakfast we pack and drive back to Lusaka. OR there are flights South Luangwa to Lusaka. The drive is 700km. You will be dropped at your accommodation in Lusaka.

How fit do I need to be?

This is a luxury safari tour on a safe lodge. The staff will take care of everything for your upkeep.

What about battery charging and hot shower facilities?

Yes there is charging points at the lodge and hot showers. There is even a swimming pool should you need to cool down in the afternoon while waiting for your late afternoon activity.

Are there ATMs on the way to Flatdogs Camp?

Yes in Lusaka there are ATMs and there will be time for you to do shopping.

How much do guides and porters cost?

The package includes a guiding fee however we would appreciate if you would tip them as well for a minimum of $10 per day.
